A delegation of Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) was in Washington, DC, on April 12 and 13, to participate in the 2023 AAHCI Global Innovation Forum and the World Health Summit (WHS) Regional Meeting 2023. The official representation was carried out by Professor Eloisa Silva Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá, Director of FMUSP, Professor Valeria Aoki, President of the International Relations Commission, Professor Nelson da Cruz Gouveia, Vice-President of the International Relations Commission and Talita de Almeida, Coordinator of the International Office and Former Manager of the Regional Office of AAHCI-LAC.
The Association of Academic Health Centers International (AAHCI) promoted its Global Innovation Forum, the first face-to-face conference since 2019, which addressed a variety of contemporary health, environment and development challenges, through various activities, such as debates, awards, sessions for networking, lectures and etc. The central theme was “Collaboration Generates Resilience”, with sub-themes: AAHC Innovative Models; The role of interprofessional collaboration in improving patient safety; and Academic Health Centers as Learning Health Systems.
WHS is an international conference whose mission is to find solutions for global health and development, seeking to define an agenda for a healthier future, with innovative solutions to improve the quality of life and well-being of all. It brings together people from politics, science, the private sector, civil society and mainly, as part of the M8 Alliance coalition, professionals from hospitals and universities, to exchange knowledge and build partnerships.
WHS's main topics were Global Health in a Political World; Climate Change, Pandemics and Social Determinants of Health; Confronting the Burden of Non-Infectious Diseases (NCDs); Gender and Power: equity at work; Racism in Global Health; Technology for Global Health; and Sustainable Giving in Global Health.
The M8 Alliance also held its General Assembly, which discussed examples of good practices by the association's members, guidelines for joining new members and potential partners, etc.
The results of FMUSP's participation in these two international events were very positive, some institutional visits had been planned, such as at Dalhousie University, in Canada, and also at the National Taiwan University, in Taiwan. New partnerships were agreed and will be officially signed in the coming months. In addition to some confirmed agreements between faculties for the exchange of knowledge, provision of services such as professional courses and even a postdoctoral research program, for example, with the Lebanese American University, in the area of Dermatology.
