FMUSP regrets to announce the passing of Professor Dr. Nairo de Souza Vargas, faculty member of the Department of Psychiatry at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP).

The wake is being held today (May 22, 2023) at Gethsemani Cemetery, located at Praça da Ressurreição, 1, Vila Sônia, São Paulo, SP, and the burial will take place at noon.

Dr. Nairo Vargas, a medical graduate of the São Paulo School of Medicine, completed his residency, master 's, and doctoral degrees at FMUSP. He became a faculty member of the Department of Psychiatry in 1981.

Among his numerous activities since then, Dr. Nairo Vargas served as a supervisor of the Psychotherapy Service at the Institute of Psychiatry of the Hospital das Clínicas of FMUSP (IPq-HCFMUSP) and became a fundamental reference in the field of Analytical Psychology for undergraduate students, residents, and colleagues at IPq and the department.

He published many books and articles in this field and was a founding member and leader of the Brazilian Society of Analytical Psychology (SBPA) in various terms.
