The Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) received, on November 9, 2022, two representatives of the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), a unique and autonomous intergovernmental organization with biotechnology laboratories in Italy, India and South Africa, and which currently has around 600 scientists from over 40 different countries.

The Dr. Lawrence Banks, Director General of ICGEB, and Dr. Luiz Fernando Zerbini, Director of ICGEB Cape Town, took part in a meeting where the establishment of a cooperation agreement between the Center and FMUSP was discussed, so that the Faculty can receive professionals and students from ICGEB and send researchers, especially postgraduate, as well as professors, allowing an exchange between the two institutions.

Present representing FMUSP were Professor Eloisa Bonfá, Director, Prof. Roger Chammas, Head of the Office, Prof. Aluisio Segurado, Pro-Rector of Graduation at USP, Professor Valeria Aoki, President of the International Relations Committee (CRInt) and Prof. Nelson Gouveia, Vice-President of CRInt. The researcher from the Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo (ICESP), Bryan Strauss, and the Deputy Dean of Innovation at USP, Raul Gonzalez Lima, participated together.
