The Vice-Governor and Secretary of Government of the State of São Paulo, Rodrigo Garcia, and the Secretary of State for Health of São Paulo, Jean Gorinchteyn, paid a visit on December 7, 2021, to the Insituto do Câncer do Estado de São Paulo – ICESP (Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo). They participated in the ceremony to announce and sign documents for the transfer of resources from the Government of the State of São Paulo to the Hospital das Clínicas (HC) of the Faculdade de Medicine da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP).
At first, Vice-Governor Rodrigo Garcia thanked the health professionals because, according to him: “it was the people who made the difference in facing the Covid-19 pandemic and that São Paulo has been an example for Brazil and to the world of determination, resilience and prioritizing life”.
Professor Tarcisio Eloy Pessoa de Barros Filho, Director of FMUSP and President of the Deliberative Council of HCFMUSP, highlighted the long partnership and collaboration between the Government of São Paulo, the FMUSP and the Hospital das Clínicas. He emphasized that the financial contribution comes with a "new model of work and hiring, so that the improvement is permanent and a concrete opportunity to improve service, in particular, for the regularization of long treatments and surgeries, dammed by the pandemic, and for the benefit of the poorest population in the State of São Paulo”.
The Deputy Governor stated that, with the reposition of the budget, new demands will come and that the Government of São Paulo is ready to meet them. Rodrigo Garcia declared: “ICESP will receive 28 million reais to close the accounts for 2021. I know of the challenges ahead in terms of investments and costs and, therefore, I am authorizing today the transfer of 102 million reais to Hospital das FMUSP clinics, which will allow the hiring of more than 1,300 professionals for the HCFMUSP complex, in 2022”.
Public authorities were also welcomed on stage by Engineer Antônio José Rodrigues Pereira, Superintendent of HCFMUSP, by Prof. Paulo Hoff, Director of ICESP and other professors, leaders and employees who were present at the event.
