The Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo (ICESP) promoted, on December 20, 2021, a formal delivery act of the revitalization works on the facade of its building and modernization of its auditoriums.

These works were carried out with funds originating from the R$ 8.2 million donation to ICESP defined in the will of lawyer Dr. Orlando Di Giacomo Filho, who died, at the age of 72, on September 11, 2012. Dr. Orlando was founder and president of the Centro de Estudos das Sociedades de Advogados, he worked for 47 years at Demarest & Almeida Advogados, of which he was a partner. His benevolent gesture only became public after his death.

The Director of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade São Paulo (FMUSP) and President of the Deliberative Council of the Hospital das Clínicas of FMUSP, Prof. Dr. Tarcisio Eloy Pessoa de Barros Filho, said: “sincere thank you from our Institution for the moving donation”.

The Clinical Director of HCFMUSP, Prof. Eloisa Silva Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá said: “may this attitude be an example of dialogue with society”.

The Superintendent of HCFMUSP, Eng. Antônio José Rodrigues Pereira, declared: “much more than a donation, it’s an investment in health”.

The President of the ICESP Board of Directors, Prof. Dr. Paulo M. Hoff, said: “the altruistic gesture was a surprise. The legacy of this donation will live on for many years to come.”.
