Prof. Gonzalo Vecina warns that it still isn’t time to take off masks and hold meetings, as we’re still far from a high vaccination coverage

Vaccination against the new coronavirus is advancing positively in Brazil, but the fact is that the numbers recorded in the State of São Paulo, for example, are not the same as in other regions of the country, which face logistical problems to be able to immunize the population. This is what happens in at least eight states, part of them in the North region, where vaccination is below 50%.

Professor Gonzalo Vecina Neto, a public health physician at the Department of Policy, Management and Health at the USP School of Public Health, says that the issue is not vaccines, but the difficulty in immunizing. The issue of logistics is not exclusive to Brazil, but to several countries on the planet. The world also faces “blackouts” in this sense, such as Haiti, which has only 2% vaccinated, despite the fact that the vaccine has already been applied to 8 billion people.

A recent report released by Professor Esper Kallás, from the USP School of Medicine, takes stock of the current situation of vaccines in the world. Prof. Gonzalo Vecina says that “there are at least 105 vaccines in clinical trials and another 194 in the laboratory development phase”. He explains that Incor is also developing a vaccine against Covid-19 already at an advanced stage with the production of immunoglobulin A.
