The first edition of the USP Post Graduate Video Award, instituted by the Pro-rectory of Post Graduate (PPG) of USP to divulge scientific production of the University by digital media, has had amongst its winners a production of the students Ana Carolina M. Domingues and Nadine Gimenez de Assis, of the Post Graduate Program in Oncology of FMUSP.  In the video, the students show genic therapy for the treatment of cancer has been developed at the Viral Vector Laboratory of FMUSP and the Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo (ICESP).

The awarded videos have up to three minutes long and show the theme and the impact of each area’s research. A playlist with the 10 winning videos can be checked here.

The FMUSP, by its doctorate students, has also received this year a diversity of CAPES Thesis Award 2019. Besides the awarded thesis already released on this website – defended by the Post Graduate Program in Sciences of the Preventive Medicine Department and by the Rehabilitation Program of the Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy (FOFITO) of USP – other works compose the list.

Among the winners of the CAPES Thesis Award 2019 is the work of Ruan Felipe Vieira Medrano, “Remediation of the p53/Arf and Interferon-beta pathways as a cancer immunotherapy strategy: a gene transfer approach”. The thesis was defended by the Post Graduate Program in Oncology of FMUSP, under the guidance of Prof. Bryan Eric Strauss. The work has also won the USP Highlight Thesis Award 2019.

In the area of Medicine III of the award, the thesis “Study of the effects of 17β -estradiol on the microcirculation in a model of encephalic death in male mice” was defended by Roberta Figueiredo Vieira, under the guidance of Prof. Paulina Sannomiya, from the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Program, of FMUSP. This work was co-oriented by the researcher Ana Cristina Breithaupt Faloppa, from the Cardiovascular Surgery and Physiopathology of Circulation (LIM 11).

In the area of Medicine I, the Honor Mention of the CAPES Thesis Award 2019 was given to the work “Effect of carvedilol in the prevention of chemotheraphyinduced cardiotoxicity: results of a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled trial”, defended by Mônica Samuel Avila, under the guidance of Prof. Silvia Moreira Ayub Ferreira, from the Cardiology Program of FMUSP.
