A total of 254 renowned specialists, from 34 countries, took part on the 1st BESP – Bariatric Endoscopy São Paulo, promoted by the Endoscopy Service of the Digestive Track Surgery and Coloproctology Service of the Central Institute of the Hospital das Clínicas (ICHC) of FMUSP, in partnership with the Therapeutic Endoscopy Service of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard University, in the United States. The success established the second edition of the BESP, which already has a date: the 2nd and 3rd of October 2020.
According to Prof. Eduardo Guimarães Hourmeaux de Moura, titular professor of the Endoscopy Service and coordinator of the course, the goal of the event is to exchange knowledge and to offer a better treatment option to the bariatric patient, based on a better medical practice. Procedures were performed in real time on the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Service and broadcasted, exclusively, through internet with high resolution technology.
The course counted on the support and partnership of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), of the Medical School of Harvard and the Association of Bariatric Endoscopy (ABE), The action allowed the unification of continents and influenced doctors around the globe, according to the organizers. “It’s an honor to be in the HC medical corps and to believe we can always do better”, said Prof. Eduardo Moura. The course happened on the 4th and 5th of October.
