Professor Raul Cutait, Associate at the Surgery Department of Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP), received the Prêmio Professor Emérito - Troféu Guerreiro da Educação Ruy Mesquita, given in 2020. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he only was delivered at the solemn session held on November, 10th, 2021, in person and on-line, at the Theater of the Centro de Integração Empresa-Escola (CIEE). On the occasion, Professor Sonia Guimarães from the Instituto Tecnológico da Aeronáutica (ITA) was also awarded for the 2021 edition.

The Prêmio Professor Emérito - Troféu Guerreiro da Educação Ruy Mesquita is a Professor Emeritus Award, a partnership offer between the CIEE and the O Estado de S. Paulo newspaper, which since 1997 recognizes professionals who work in the improvement of education and contribute to Brazilian society. The final nomination for the award comes from a list of 40 names of professors from different areas selected by an electoral college composed of the CIEE's senior management, employees, associates and volunteers.

Prof. Raul Cutait thanked the tribute and stated that the CIEE deserves all “thanks and enthusiasm for preparing thousands of young people”. He stated: “I feel privileged to be part of a list that means a lot for its importance. The fact made me review what education represents in my life and be able to look differently to the future”. The Professor said that he started teaching in a prep course, later he was a preceptor, and academic life was always present in parallel to university and professional life in being a doctor. Prof. Cutait highlighted that one of the most special activities for him was assisting residents in surgery, because "I was not only able to teach techniques, but I learned to see the patient as a whole, his physical health and his soul".

The opening and closing of the event were made by the String Quartet of the Baccarelli Institute. The presentation was made by journalist Carlos Nascimento. The initial greeting was given by Humberto Casagrande, CEO of CIEE, who highlighted that the institution "is an integration between everything and everyone and, today, it serves 220 thousand young people and has another 1.7 million in line waiting for vacancies." The trophy was handed over by José Augusto Minarelli, President of the Board of Directors of the CIEE, and Francisco Mesquita Neto, CEO of Grupo Estado. As a representative of the FMUSP, Prof. Carlos Vicente Serrano Júnior, Vice-President of the Committee on Culture and University Extension and Associate of the Cardiopneumology Departament.

“The teacher not only teaches specific topics, but is the source of encouragement and example for those he teaches. In addition, he has the responsibility and can improve educational institutions”, declared Prof. Raul Cutait.
