Prof. Dr. Linamara Rizzo Battistella, Titular Professor of the Legal Medicine, Medical Ethics, Social and Occupational Medicine Department of FMUSP, takes office as international effective member of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) of USA. The ceremony was on October 19th, at the NAM headquarters, in Washington, DC.

The election as a member of the NAM is considered one of the greatest honors of the medical area and recognizes those whose work have helped the advancement of science and medicine. The FMUSP professor is part of the 10 international members elected in 2018, that, for the first time, bestows the title of effective member to a Brazilian doctor.

“I’ve received this indication with joy, but aware of the responsibility of integrating the National Academy of Medicine of USA as a professor of the Medical School of the Universidade de São Paulo”, adds Prof. Linamara.

The NAM is a non-profit independent organization which aims to improve health for all by advancing science and accelerating health equity, besides encouraging education, research and the increase of public understanding in health issues.
