The Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP), together with the Brazilian Society of Microscopy and Microanalysis (SBMM), paid tribute to Professor Antonio Sesso, an illustrious personality who, since his graduation in 1949, shared 74 years of history with the Institution. The event was held on January 11, 2023, in the FMUSP Congregation Room, and was attended by members of the Board of Directors, professors, researchers, Department heads and other professionals.
At the central table of the ceremony were Professor Roger Chammas, Head of Office at FMUSP, Prof. Yassuhiko Okay, Senior Faculty Advisor, Full Professor Mirian Nacagami Sotto, of Pathology Department, and Professor Maria Cássia Jacintho Mendes Corrêa, from Institute of Tropical Medicine (IMT) of FMUSP.
Prof. Roger Chammas led the celebration and began his speech highlighting the invaluable role played by Prof. Session over decades in training human resources “in an area as important as morphology and, specifically, in electronic microscopy”.
Then Prof. Mirian Nacagami Sotto, colleague of the honoree in the Pathology Department, where Prof. Sesso was a member of the teaching staff for 27 years of her career, read a text prepared by her. “The electronic microscopy laboratory has been a multi-user laboratory since its inception, under the constant and zealous care of professor Sesso so that nothing was lacking for its better functioning and availability”, highlighted the professor.
Then, she read testimonials left by other colleagues: Professor Maria Claudia Zerbini, of FMUSP Pathology Department, Professor Marise do Amaral Rebouças Moreira, who did her PhD in the Pathology Department and is a member of Faculty of Medicine at Universidade Federal de Goiás, Dr. Jussara Bianchi, pathologist at the Instituto do Coração (InCor) and Titular Professor Carmen Lucia Penteado Lancellotti, of Pathology at Faculty at Faculdade de Ciências Médicas da Santa Casa de São Paulo.
