In a special section, held in the Congregation Room of the Medical School of USP on this Tuesday (03/13), the Term of Technic-Scientific Cooperation between the Clínicas Hospital (HCFMUSP), the Medical School Foundation (FFM), the Zerbini Foundation (FZ), the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) and the Brazilian Association of the Industry of Medical Odontology, Hospital and Laboratory Articles and Equipment (ABIMO) was renewed.

At the Opening Session, the director-president of Brazilian Company of Industrial Research and Innovation (Project Embrapii), Jorge Almeida Guimarães, presented the details of this Social Organization, which is similar to the Ministry of Science, Tachnology, Innovation and Communication (MCTIC) and the Ministry of Education (MEC).

According to professor Guido Cerri, the goal of introducing Embrapii to the Academic Community is to enable the accreditation of HCFMUSP as a unity of Embrapii. There are 10 Embrapii poles on the State of São Paulo, USP answers for 3 accredited unities: the Polytechnic School of USP, the Physics Institute of the Engineering School of São Carlos (EESC-USP) and the Superior School of Agriculture “Luiz de Queiroz” (Esalq-USP).

The idea is to create within the Clínicas Complex one or, eventually, more Embrapii unities. It could initially be a single pole which would be subdivided in other medical expertise, according to the development of the institute’ specialties given the demand and technological innovation. We are an excellence pole and we need to establish a relationship of our researchers with the industries and seek financing through Embrapii”, says professor Guido Cerri, former State Health Secretary and ex-director of FMUSP.

Created in 2013, the Embrapii Project already developed 91 patents, concluded 87 projects and invested R$ 690 million in 430 projects and a total of 311 companies. “Nothing similar was ever done in Brazil, where nothing is growing right now. The majority of these companies would’ve never done P&D in Brazil any other way, and observe that many of them are multinationals”, highlighted the director-president.
