The Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo is sorry to inform the death of Professor Emeritus György Miklós Böhm, on October 18, 2022.

Professor György Miklós Böhm joined the teaching career at USP in 1962, at FMRP, at the age of 26. In 1977, he assumed the position of Full Professor at the Pathology Department of FMUSP, contributing decisively to the reformulation of the Department that took place over the decades from 1970 to 1990. At the time, there was a division of missions between him and Professor Thales de Brito , as they have different profiles. György devoted himself more to Experimental Pathology, while Thales to Diagnostic Pathology. Professor György was an extraordinary teacher and an entrepreneur in teaching and research. He created the Atmospheric Pollution Laboratory at FMUSP, renovated and directed the Death Verification Service of the Capital, the disciplines of Medical Informatics and Telemedicine, played a fundamental role in the consolidation of the Medical Research Laboratories, greatly helped to solidify the Postgraduate Program - Graduate in Pathology, created the Graduate Program in Experimental and Comparative Pathology (in association with FMVZ/USP).

In the environment of his laboratory, several of the Titular Professors who worked or still work at FMUSP were trained. At the administrative level, it was the driving force for the effective start of  Medical School Fundation (Fundação Faculdade de Medicina - FFM) activities as its director. He had a polymorphous and varied culture. He was one of the creators of the Sociedade Pró-Música de Ribeirão Preto, advisor to the British Council, contributing to different musical entities in São Paulo, in the opera field.

After his retirement, he dedicated himself even more to producing literature in areas such as music, culture and fiction (aspects that he had already developed significantly during his period of teaching activity). He had a strong personality and felt free to express his opinions. Today, FMUSP loses one of its great Professors and the intellectual desert of Brazil becomes even more arid.

The family informs that, by wish of Prof. György Miklós Böhm, there will be no wake and his body is already being sent for cremation. In due course, the Pathology Department of FMUSP will publish a tribute to Prof. Gyorgy Miklós Bohm.
