Prof. Dr. Sergio Paulo Bydlowski, from the Medical Clinic Department of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo, FMUSP), was appointed Substitute President of the National Technical Commission on Biosafety - CTNBio.
CTNBio is a multidisciplinary collegiate body, created by Law No. 11,105, of March 24, 2005, whose purpose is to provide technical advisory support to the Federal Government. It follows scientific development and progress mainly in the areas of biosafety, biotechnology and bioethics. The commission is composed of a group of 54 doctors (27 full professors and 27 substitutes) and brings together representatives from different ministries and specialists.
“It is an honor to act as the Substitute President of CTNBio, an organization that brings together important researchers in Brazil dedicated to biosafety. Among the various challenges that lie ahead for CTNBio, perhaps one of the most important is the area of advanced therapies, especially gene therapy in humans, for which there will be a need to develop specific guidelines”, says Prof. Sergio Paulo Bydlowski.
