On October 6th, 2021, the
first event to discuss Science and Communication was held at the Faculdade de Medicina
da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP), a project named “Press Room”. This is an
initiative organized by the Scientific Dissemination Center (CDC) of the FMUSP
System and Hospital das Clínicas (HC), which included the opening speech of
Prof. Roger Chammas, Vice-Director of FMUSP and Vice-President of the
Deliberative Council of HCFMUSP, the presentation of the journalist Victor
Ramos and with the participation of the community of the complex.
During the meeting,
journalist Victor Ramos outlined an overview of the press in general, spoke of
the current scenario where attention and spaces in the media are more open to
issues related to science and health, and explained the main topics that can
generate interest to vehicles press to carry out journalistic coverage. He
cited relevant aspects for a study, essay or other academic activity to gain
space in the media, such as: “originality, good stories, impact and relevance
to society”. In addition, the journalist said that the CDC “is a space that is
open to discuss agendas” and to “build an ever-growing institutional culture of
communication and scientific dissemination, together with professors,
researchers and employees.
Prof. Roger Chammas said:
“We want to create an environment in which we can, on an ongoing basis, seek to
improve our community's ability to communicate science and advances in medical
research, because this is our way of giving back to society what is produced.
in the FMUSP-HC System”. He added: “this is a step towards changing our
culture, I am a soldier of this cause, to improve our communication skills”.
The CDC was created by the FMUSP Research Commission, with
support from the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation (FAPESP), to
promote the culture of scientific dissemination, offer workshops on
communication and the press, in addition to the main objective of giving
greater visibility to the productions of the Academic System FMUSP-HC.
