On January 19, 2023, the FMUSP received a visit of Government members of Cape Verde and a representative of the World Bank, who accompanied the group on a mission to visit hospitals, secretariats and other health entities in Brazil.

Aspects about medical education, public health, residency, training of health professionals, hospital management, the Unified Health System (SUS), possibility of an institutional collaboration agreement and others were explored during the visit to FMUSP. The Cape Verdean authorities, in partnership with the World Bank, are interested in learning about successful experiences that can contribute to the implementation of a highly complex hospital in Cape Verde.

Dr. Ângela Gomes, National Director of Health at the Ministry of Health of Cape Verde, gave an overview of public health and the training of professionals in the medical fields in her country. She mentioned as majores challenges the reorganization of the primary care network, the provision of training, mainly, practical training for specialist physicians, such as cardiologists, orthopedists and oncologists, training for nurses and nutritionists, the improvement of public health processes and indicators, and etc.

In addition to her, the delegation was composed of: Nuno Gomes, Coordinator of the Special Projects Management Unit of the Ministry of Finance, João Santos, from the Ministry of Health, Eduardo Tavares, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Independent Regulatory Entity of Health, and Wladimir Guimarães Correa Taborda, IFC/World Bank medical consultant.

They were received in the FMUSP Board of Directors room by Professor Iolanda de Fátima Lopes Calvo Tibério, President of Undergraduate Commission, Professor Ana Claudia Latrônico Xavier, President of Research Commission and Professor Carlos Vicente Serrano Junior, President of Culture and Extension Commission. It also had the participation of Matheus Belloni Torsani, Executive Director of the Center for the Development of Medical Education (CEDEM) at FMUSP, Talita de Almeida, Coordinator of FMUSP International Office and Natasha Zanaroli Scaldaferri, Legal Advisor at InovaHC and InRad.
