The creator of the Kids Save Lives project in the world, which promotes the training of children from the age of four in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Professor Bernd W. Böttiger, Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Cologne, Germany, visited Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) on April 24, 2023.
Prof. Böttiger gave the talk “Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Post-CPR Care”, which was held at the Amphitheater of FMUSP with live transmission on the YouTube channel. It was mainly attended by academics of Universidade Federal da Bahia and Universidade Federal do Rio Grande. He thanked the support and enthusiasm of all those present and involved in Kids Save Lives Brasil, who collaborate in raising awareness and, above all, in training more children, adolescents and adults in the worldwide campaign “Use two hands to save a life”.
With the Kids Save Lives Brazil training, a person will know how to recognize signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest and act initially until the arrival of the Emergency Medical Service. With these guidelines, the victim's chances of survival increase and thousands of lives around the world can be saved - this being the biggest cause of Prof. Bernd Böttiger.
Prof. Bernd Böttiger was welcomed in the FMUSP Board Room by Prof. Roger Chammas, Head of Radiology and Oncology Department, accompanied by the Coordinators of Kids Save Lives Brazil, Prof. Naomi Kondo Nakagawa, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy Department, Prof. Maria Jose Carvalho Carmona, of Surgery Department, Prof. Antonio de Padua Mansur, of Cardiopneumology Department, and Prof. Heraclito Barbosa de Carvalho, of Preventive Medicine Departament, all Full Professors at FMUSP.At the end of his visit to FMUSP, Prof. Bernd Böttiger had lunch with undergraduate students, professors and volunteers from the Kids Save Lives Brazil program.
