The delivery of the works for the renovation of the Intensive Care and Trauma Units, Geriatrics Hospitalization and Rheumatology Hospitalization of the Central Institute (IC) of the Hospital das Clínicas (HC) of the Faculdade de Medicine da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) was carried out by Governor Rodrigo Garcia, on November 11, 2022. He also announced financial resources for the Institute of Tropical Medicine (IMT) of FMUSP, the Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo (ICESP) and for HCFMUSP.“
The objective here is to carry out the openings, the result of decisions we took back then, and also prepare the future for our HCFMUSP. I am happy to be able, alongside the FMUSP, to reinforce some of the values and convictions that São Paulo has. It's not just about the money invested, but the motivation that leads us to make those choices. The city has a beautiful story to tell, both in its past and hopefully in its future, where we can show Brazil that investing in science, research and care for life is fundamental for a civilized society”, said Rodrigo Garcia .
The Superior Administration of HCFMUSP declared that there are more than 1,500 m2 of areas completely renovated, with 52 beds and 8 armchairs in the Day Hospital modality, which will provide more comfort to patients and quality of care. In addition to the improvements that were made in the care, technical and support environments, there will also be an adaptation and training phase for the teams.
“After three years fully dedicated to the health care of patients with Covid-19, the Central Institute of HCFMUSP returns to its origins, recomposing itself, with a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach. The institute inaugurates another floor and fulfills its role very well, providing assistance, teaching and leading to new knowledge”, said Prof. José Antônio Sanches Junior, member of the ICHC Board of Directors.
On the occasion, Prof. Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior, Rector of USP, declared, for the first time in the history of the university, the investment in a teaching hospital. HCFMUSP will receive R$ 100 million for the construction of a building for clinical research, otorhinolaryngology and head and neck ophthalmology. Which already has the support of the Governor for the acquisition of equipment and operation for the coming years.
The Rector thanked HCFMUSP, employees, professors and students and highlighted that, “the Government's contributions only happen because of the greatness of the hospital, the agility and capacity of the professionals, who have responded to what the university and the government propose”. Prof. Carlotti also added: “investing generates more work for employees, increases areas of activity, but I am sure that every dollar invested in HC is transformed into an immediate improvement for the population, and there is nothing better than having quality service in health”.
“HCFMUSP was our biggest university partner. What brings us together today is yet another important investment action in the public health of this state. Every day and every cycle, people like us give a little of our energies and a piece of our lives to this social project that is the SUS, successful and in eternal construction”, said Eduardo Ribeiro Adriano, Executive Secretary of São Paulo Secretary of Health.
Prof. Paulo M. Pêgo Fernandes, Vice-Director of FMUSP, stated that the HCFMUSP Complex is one, and as an area grows, an institute grows stronger, the impact is immediate on the Faculty of Medicine and Hospital das Clínicas. “The investments help us in teaching undergraduate students, boarding students, graduate students and residents. This is very important, both for the training of new doctors and for the other health professionals we train here, and especially for the health of the population”, said Prof. Paulo Pêgo.
The Governor of the State of São Paulo also informed the transfer of R$ 22 million for the construction of a new building, the Building of the Center for Simulation and Neglected Diseases of the Institute of Tropical Medicine (IMT) of FMUSP, which will have 3.7 thousand m2, with research laboratories and rooms for academic activities simulating medical procedures. He also pronounced the amount of R$ 7.5 million destined to the bone marrow transplantation area of ICESP and the additional transfer of R$ 12 million to supplement the HCFMUSP budget for fiscal year 2022.e
