The Hospital das Clínicas (HC) of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) completed 79 years of its foundation, on April 19, 2023, with the mark of its excellence in health, research, assistance, innovation and health digital.
HCFMUSP is the main public hospital in Brazil and is among the 250 best hospitals in the world – points out the 2023 edition of the ranking carried out by the American magazine Newsweek, in partnership with Statisa Inc. This international ranking analyzes hospitals in 28 countries based on recommendations from 80,000 health professionals, user satisfaction surveys and medical performance indicators.
Professor Eloisa Silva Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá, Director of FMUSP and President of the HCFMUSP Deliberative Council, points out that the Institution takes a stand for retaining talent, valuing diversity and belonging.
The engineer Antonio José Rodrigues Pereira, Superintendent of HCFMUSP, said: “We celebrate 79 years of HCFMUSP with pride in the achievements and overcoming, aware of our role and the reference that we are for Health in Brazil”.He added: “But we don't limit ourselves to that. We know our potential and that we can achieve even more excellence, in addition to offering the best for the Brazilian population assisted by the SUS”.
By celebrating its 79th anniversary, HCFMUSP consolidates the innovation area and further streamlines digital health, always in favor of ethics, humanism and social responsibility.
In the year 2022, Digital Health expanded its reach of excellence across Brazil: 130,000 teleconsultations reduced the displacement of patients and caregivers. Training courses were offered to more than 2,000 students and 50 institutions became partners in different levels of health care.
The HC Patient Portal application was reformulated with the aim of making the patient experience even more agile and effective. The menu is practical and facilitates access to schedules, recipes, imaging tests and reports.
Between 2020 and 2021, Hospital das Clínicas da FMUSP stood out in the biggest challenge in its history, contributing to saving thousands of lives during the Covid-19 pandemic - the health crisis that hit the entire planet.
Last year, with the inauguration of the Instituto Perdizes (Iper), the Institution now has another Institute dedicated to health care, teaching and research. Iper meets two major demands: to serve as a backup for the beds, in particular as a medical clinic, and to have a center of excellence with nationwide reach for treatment, prevention, education and research in the field of alcohol and drugs. In addition, it allocates an exclusive area to develop research and innovation in health.
This structure will be expanded with the Dr. Ovid Pires de Campos Institute. This future Institute will increase the capacity for outpatient consultations in ophthalmology by 47%; otolaryngology; maxillofacial; head and neck and craniofacial plastic surgery.
HCFMUSP also has an auxiliary hospital and support units. The creation of the Clinical Research Center is planned, with an area of 9,000 square meters for therapeutic and multidisciplinary research.
In turn, the HCFMUSP Teaching, Research and Innovation Laboratory in Surgery (LEPIC) begins its activities with the objective of developing teaching, research and innovation programs in the surgical areas of HCFMUSP in the fields of laparoscopy, videosurgery, videoendoscopy and robotic surgery.
