Financial resources in the amount of R$ 4 million, through a parliamentary amendment, have been allocated to the Hospital das Clínicas (HC) of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) by Senator Astronaut Marcos Pontes (PL-SP). The official announcement was made on March 17, 2023, during his visit to FMUSP, the Central Institute (ICHC), and the Heart Institute (InCor).
He clarified that the amendments will be made through former Senator José Serra, who previously held the current seat of Senator Marcos Pontes. The R$ 4 million will be used for research and equipment acquisition for healthcare.
At FMUSP
In the FMUSP Congregation Room, the Senator was welcomed by Prof. Eloisa Silva Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá, Director of FMUSP and President of the Deliberative Council of HCFMUSP, who chaired the meeting.
Prof. Eloisa highlighted the role of the institution in the areas of education, research, innovation, and digital health. Eng. Antonio José Rodrigues Pereira, Superintendent of HCFMUSP, presented a balance of activities developed with the application of health technology.
Also participating were Prof. Paulo M. Pêgo Fernandes, Vice-Director of FMUSP and Vice-President of the Deliberative Council of HCFMUSP; Prof. Tarcisio Eloy Pessoa de Barros Filho, Vice-Director-President of the Faculdade de Medicina Foundation (FFM); Dr. Paulo Eduardo Moreira Rodrigues da Silva, President of the Zerbini Foundation; and Prof. Marcelo Morales, Professor of the Carlos Chagas Filho Institute of Biophysics (Brasília, Federal District) and Professor of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
Senator Marcos Pontes said that the allocation of financial resources is essential for the population in search of healthcare assistance and for the advancement of research, highlighting that FMUSP and HCFMUSP are internationally recognized institutions.
Visit to the HCFMUSP Complex
After the ceremony at the Faculdade de Medicina, the Senator visited the Central Institute of HCFMUSP, touring new surgical room facilities in the Outpatient Building's Surgical Center. He then visited the Trauma ICU at the Referenced Emergency Unit.
The visit continued at InCor of HCFMUSP, where he met with Full Professors on the Board of Directors of that Institute. Then he accompanied the work done in the Surgical Teleconference Command Room. At the moment, a surgery in the city of São Luís, in the state of Maranhão, was being monitored by InCor doctors in São Paulo.
