Students of class 105 of the FMUSP Medicine course got their diplomas at a solemn ceremony on November 21, 2022, at the Rebouças Convention Center. The institution was represented by Prof. Eloisa Silva Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá, newly appointed Director of FMUSP, Prof. Milton de Arruda Martins, Vice Coordinator of the Medicine course, and Prof. Iolanda de Fátima Lopes Calvo Tibério, President of the Graduation Committee.
In front of a packed auditorium, Prof. Milton de Arruda highlighted the joy of having been one of the first professors to communicate with class 105 in their admission year (period in which he was President of the Graduation Committee), and now being able to speak at the conclusion of their journeys. He also highlighted the resistance of the undergraduates during the troubled period of the pandemic, which made student permanence difficult while requiring joint actions with the Faculty, and ended his speech with a comparison between the graduation process and a long-distance run. “You keep on going because there are many people on the edge of the race encouraging you”, he said. “But the credit goes to those who ran. Those who encouraged simply prevented you from stopping”.
Next it was the turn of Prof. Iolanda de Fátima to congratulate the undergrads. “It’s the closing of a cycle in each one's life and also the beginning of the next steps towards professional training, which is and will always be ongoing”, she said. “Don’t forget that in addition to ethics, competence and empathy, a commitment to social responsibility is fundamental to return with your best work, competence and dedication all the investment that society has placed on you.”
Prof. Eloisa Bonfá made a point of remembering that FMUSP will forever be the home of each of the new doctors. “You had the opportunity to learn from excellent professors and the best technologies. You were challenged to think about new things and look at old things in a different way. I hope that the time you spent here has been a story of personal transformation, community life and teamwork appreciation”, she said, summarizing the undergraduate experience at the College.
Finally, student Rafael Franco Inácio, chosen as class speaker, took the stage and thanked all the masters that class 105 had during their six years of training, including professors and patients. “The degree we will receive here will make us fly very high”, he said. "I'm sure that each one of us know the weight of what we can do".
