The solemn investiture session for the positions of Director and Vice-Director of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) for the four-year period 2022-2026 was held on November 10th, in person at the Teatro da Faculdade, with transmission over the internet. Authorities, directors of other faculties, professors, students, employees and family members were present.

The protocol followed was the academic ceremonial of the Universidade de São Paulo. The composition of the table of honor was formed by Eduardo Ribeiro Adriano, Executive Secretary of the Secretary of State for Health of São Paulo (representative of Governor Rodrigo Garcia), Prof. Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Júnior, Rector of USP, Prof. Dr. Marina Gallottini, General Secretary of USP, Prof. Tarcisio Eloy Pessoa de Barros Filho, Director of FMUSP, Prof. Roger Chammas, Vice-Director, Prof. Paulo M. Pêgo Fernandes and Prof. Eloisa Silva Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá, respectively to be sworn in as Director and Vice-Director. There were also about 40 head teachers on stage, who wore the talar garments.

The term of possession was signed and in a traditional act the chaplain was placed by the hands of Prof. Tarcisio P. Barros Filho on the head of Professor Eloisa Silva Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá, at the moment when she takes office as Director of FMUSP – the first woman in the institution's 110 years of existence.

“Today is a day of celebration, because what is cultivated here is a continuous, daily construction process of FMUSP, one of the largest medical-scientific research centers in the country, which has the largest hospital complex in America as a teaching hospital. Latina, the Hospital das Clínicas (HC)”, said Eduardo Ribeiro Adriano, Executive Secretary of the Secretary of Health of São Paulo.

Professor Carlos Carlotti congratulated Professor Eloisa for reaching the Board of the highest medical teaching institution in the country, that the management proposals are aligned with USP's objectives and made the Rectory available to work together with good FMUSP projects.

In the inauguration speech, Professor Eloisa Bonfá said that her academic life and the management activities she carried out formed the basis of her professional development. With a Ph. She has been involved in different scientific research and care projects and has a primary interest in autoimmune diseases. Over the past 11 years, Prof. Bonfá was Clinical Director at HCFMUSP, where she classified the period of the Covid-19 pandemic as one of the most challenging in her entire career.

Professor Eloisa said that she follows her father's "dynamism and dedication to science", which has become a "point of reference and practical sense". With her mother, she learned the “importance of knowing how to listen and knowing how to look at what really matters”, in addition to being able to count on the unconditional support of her three children, husband and family. On behalf of the Board of Directors, she said: "it is with sustainability and welcome, forming and transforming people, that we all intend to guarantee the continuity of excellence and pioneering spirit of our Faculty".

Prof. Paulo Pêgo, who took over as Vice-Director, is Secretary of the Advisory Board of the Instituto do Coração (InCor) of HCFMUSP, head of the Discipline of Thoracic Surgery at the Cardiopneumology Department, was a lecturer, doctoral student, resident and student at FMUSP. He is Scientific Director of the Associação Paulista de Medicina, Secretary General of the Academia de Medicina de São Paulo and also a researcher, with scientific and technological production in thoracic, lung, cardiac and robotic surgery.

“We are concerned with how to leverage our qualities, maintain our excellence, correct our paths and reinvigorate what we need to build a better future”, said Prof. Eloisa Bonfá, when stating that a management program was prepared for FMUSP, in collaboration with Prof. Paulo Pêgo and Prof. Roger Chammas, who takes over as Head of Office. She also added, “the motto chosen is the retention of talents, which represents the institution's conviction that guaranteeing the future of the Faculty of Medicine, as a place of transformation and excellence, depends on our greatest intangible wealth, which is each of our professors, students and employees, who will make a difference in this project”.e
