Action aims to bring Council closer to the institutions in order to publicize the routine of the various areas of Veterinary Medicine

The president of the Regional Council of Veterinary Medicine of the State of São Paulo (CRMV-SP), Odemilson Donizete Mossero, alongside treasurer Rosemary Viola Bosch, representative of the Council at CEUA/FMUSP, visited, on November 9, the Ethics Commission on the Use of Animals (CEUA), and the Bioterium of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP).

“It was my first visit to a CEUA. I was delighted with what I saw, given the existing professionalism in the analysis of research projects that mandatorily go through this Commission for prior approval regarding use, with due respect, for the welfare of these animals. I saw a multidisciplinary action (Veterinary Medicine, Human Medicine, Biology, Chemistry, Physiotherapy), and these professionals analyzing projects very seriously and focusing the final decision on the animal itself, which will be the benchmark of the research, whose results will benefit human health”, emphasized Mossero.

The president of CRMV-SP pointed out that the analysis of the animal's living conditions is very important, that veterinarians are decisive for this, and that at CEUA/FMUSP, in addition to the coordinator, several other members are veterinarians, such as the treasurer from CRMV-SP, Rosemary Viola Bosch, who carefully analyze, mainly, the dosage of drugs and anesthetics in order to guarantee, with safety, that the animal will not feel pain or any major discomfort.

“As I worked my whole life at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), with animal health defense and a special focus on biosecurity in theanimal quarantine area, I saw in CEUA a very close parallel to that care, hygiene, animal and human health and protection,” said the president.
